Rule with Purpose

What is purpose?

What have you been created for?

Knowing your purpose brings sense and order to the chaos of life. God brought order to chaos when He created the world. In Genesis God spoke life into existence. Darkness was over the the deep. His spirit hovered over the waters and God said, “Let there be light (Genesis 1:3).” Jesus is the word He used to create all things (John 1:1). “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made (John 1:1-3).”

After everything had been created then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground (Genesis 1:26).”

Humanity was created to rule. You and I have been created to rule and manage God’s creation. Humanity was placed in the garden to manage and rule. God wanted to partner with us in creation. We were made in His image and likeness to create with Him and manage creation.

We were made from the dirt of the earth. We are dirt creatures formed in the likeness of God. This is significant to our calling and purpose. The angels and the host of heaven shine like the stars in the sky, but humanity was elevated to kingship and rule creation. That honor was reserved for us. In Psalms eight David writes, “what is mankind that you are mindful of them,

human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels

and crowned them with glory and honor.

You made them rulers over the works of your hands;

you put everything under their feet:

all flocks and herds,

and the animals of the wild,

the birds in the sky,

and the fish in the sea,

all that swim the paths of the seas (Psalms 8:4-8).”

We have been elevated above all else to rule as God’s children. We are elevated by God, not by our own doing. We were created from the dirt, but elevated to sons and daughters of God. The powers of this world want us to forget our divine calling. The demons want to lord over us and make us believe they are more powerful. God has given us the gift of life, but we hang on to the fear of death. The dark powers of this world want us to believe resources are scarce and we must use violence to secure life. This fear enslaves us.

Fear causes humanity to destroy itself and creation. This destroys the blessings God has given us. This destruction is the goal of the dark powers of this world. Fear is the absence of love. Perfect love casts out all fear. “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love (1 John 4:18).”

God has shown us the way to perfect love through the example of Jesus. Perfect love casts out all fear and enables us to live out our calling as sons and daughters of God. We are then able to manage and create with God. This is how we bring Heaven to earth. We embrace the gift Jesus had given us by following his teaching and example.

Our purpose is to rule and manage in partnership with God. Life is found in the wisdom and teaching of Jesus. This is our charge. This is our blessing.
